UNIVERSITY FOR PLANETARY SYNTHESIS

The vision described in the protocol of the Third General Assembly of the IPS in 1983:

The UPS does not primarily imply a concrete building to be called by that name, but rather a work by infiltration into the already existing educational bodies. It is hence not limited by place. Teachers from anywhere who like to work in a spiritual way may become teachers of the UPS in their respective educational institutions. It thus becomes a network of the World Teacher who works through teachers who have freed themselves from personal wishes and preferences, so that they become co-creators; men and women who serve on all levels at the same time.

In that spirit, we proposed a seminar program with teachers from various fields to the University of Geneva and to the University of Moscow. It was not accepted by the University of Geneva, and could not go ahead in Moscow because of financial limitations.

International Teachers Conferences were organised in 1981, 1982 and 1983, in cooperation with the World Teacher Trust (Visakhapatnam, India) and under the guidance of Dr. E. Krishnamacharya, who also proposed a syllabus on the science of man based on the 10 seed-group structure. In 1984, after Krishnamacharya passed away, a Fourth International Teachers Conference was organised with the participation of K.P. Kumar and M.R.L. Rao, co-workers of Dr. Krishnamacharya. However, a team dedicated to the creation of the UPS could not be gathered.

Since, we have sought to support and participate in the work carried out by various groups throughout the world dedicated to the task of spiritual education.

University for Peace in Costa Rica, founded by Rodrigo Carazo, former President of Costa Rica, and Robert Muller, Vice-Secretary General of the UN. This cooperation led to our participation in the international conference Seeking the True Meaning of Peace in San Jose, Costa Rica, in 1991.

University of the Seven Rays in New Jersey, USA. Organisation of workshops with Michael Robbins in the Geneva area.

Institut Alcor in France, from its planning stages, with the vision of an esoteric school in France

Institute of Global Education, in the US, which has created an alternative, Robert Muller School in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Organisation of seminars with co-workers of Dr. Krishnamacharya in Switzerland, Bolivia, Ukraine and Russia: K.P. Kumar, M.R.L. Rao and Dr. E. Anantakrishna. This work continues with Dr. E. Anantakrishna, mainly in Geneva, the Ukraine and Russia.

COOPERATION WITH THE UNITED NATIONS AND NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS

The IPS first applied to consultative status in 1986-87, unsuccessfully.

On the occasion of the organisation of the Rio Conference on Environment and Development in 1992, Maurice Strong, the Under-Secretary General of the UN in charge of the event opened the doors of the UN to the NGO community, and granted consultative status to the NGOs which participated in the Rio Conference.  The IPS was thus officially granted consultative status in 1993, although a typing error has caused this to be changed to 1998 in all official UN papers.

The IPS thus participated in several major UN conferences in the 1990Õs, and in the corresponding NGO Fora:

UN Conference on Environment and Development (Rio, 1992)
World Summit for Social Development (Copenhagen, 1995)
4th World Conference on Women (Beijing, 1995)
United Nations Conference on Human Settlements, Habitat II (Istanbul, 1996)
World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg, 2002)

It also participated in major NGO conferences, such as:

International Conference of NGOs (Seoul, 1999)
Parliament of the WorldÕs Religions (Cape town, 2002)

The IPS is member of FIIG (Federation of International Institutions with headquarters in Geneva) and CONGO (Conference of NGOs with consultative status)

Co-founder of CONGO Committees: Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns-Geneva, issued from the Spiritual Caucus of spiritually oriented NGOs; and of Committee on the Environment, founded upon an initiative of Vita de Waal

Member of several CONGO Committees: Freedom of Religion and Belief, Forum for Health and Working Group on Mental Health, Human Rights Education and Learning, Committee on the Culture of Peace

Our most active representatives at the UN are:

Rudolf Schneider, who tirelessly attends meetings at the UN in Geneva, in particular the sessions of the Commission on Human Rights, now Human Rights Council, and countless NGO Committee meetings.

Lisinka Ulatowska at the UN in New York, founder of the All-Win Network with many years of experience in lobbying at the UN. She wrote IPS statements for meetings of the ECOSOC High-Level Segment, one on the Commons and one on Education. for World Stewardship for the Benefit of All. She leads a team of committed representatives at the UN in New York.

Future perspectives
